Homeopathy is a system of natural medicine that was discovered in the late 18th century by a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann. It is now used by many millions of people around the world. Hahnemann discovered that small amounts of natural substances could trigger healing reactions in sick people. The system of medicine that he founded, Homeopathy, is based on supporting the body’s own tendency to heal and recover its own state of equilibrium. Physical, mental and emotional symptoms are seen as expressions of imbalance within ‘the whole person’, and homeopaths aim to support health in ‘the whole person’, rather than dealing with each symptom individually. People of all ages, at all stages of life, and with a wide variety of symptoms consult homeopaths. Consultations are individualised, and the remedies used are natural and safe. Barbara is a registered Homeopath and a member of the Society of Homeopaths, and she offers Homeopathy consultations at Equilibrium in Huntingdon. She trained at the London School of Classical Homeopathy. She has a firm commitment to supervision and continuing professional development. She is also a teacher of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction.

What to expect from a consultation

Homeopaths work through consultations. The homeopath needs to get a detailed understanding of who the client is, as well as the details of their complaint, their health history, and lifestyle information. An initial consultation lasts at least 1½ hours. At least one follow-up consultation is required, lasting at least 45 minutes, and with more complex complaints, more may be suggested. Remedies are prescribed on the basis of the information gathered in the consultations.
